Having attended the U of T ourselves, nostalgia overtook us as we returned to our Alma Mater to shoot Aalima and Imran’s University of Toronto Engagement photos. They also met on St. George Campus and wanted to relive their school days around some of their favorite buildings. The University has amazing architecture and is the perfect back drop to any engagement or wedding photo sessions. For this shoot we started in King’s College Circle. We then made our way to University College, Knox College, and around Convocation Hall itself. This school convocation was a few days away and seeing the tents set up on the fields brought back great memories for all of us.
We used a variety of lighting from reflectors, off-camera flash, and ambient lighting. We truly believe that photos are only as good as the lighting in the scene. You can have the greatest gear, but without knowing how to shape or control the light, the photos are lifeless. When couples ask us what time is best for photos, we always suggest shooting at first light, or a few hours before sunset. Depending on the time of year and when the sun goes down, that could be 3PM or 7PM. So check with your photographer for the “ideal” lighting conditions.
